Easy pickups and drop-offs at Malaga airports AGP – Tips

At Malaga airport you have several options to pick up someone by car. Which option is best for you at Malaga Airport depends on the time you want to spend and what you want to pay for it.

You can of course simply wait “semi” illegal along the road and and wait for the people who come to pick them up. Like everywhere in Spain, there are of course rules that you must comply with, but in practice they are not so strict with enforcement. You must stay close to your car to avoid any surprises.

For legal short-term parking, there are official parking spaces that are close to the arrival hall of Malaga Airport AGP. These are of course very useful and give you much less stress, but of course there are parking costs involved. Or you can use our tip and use the 15min rule smart.

Parking Preferente / Arivals car park

If you want to greet people personally at the arrival hall, you can park in the Parking Preferente. You can then simply stressfree to wait for them inside the airport. You can park your car legally in this parking lot. For easy use it is best to choose this preferente parking space. Costs to park there for 30 minutes will be around 2.75 euros. If you stay there for 1 hour, it will cost you a little more than 5 euros.

To get to the prefente car park, you must follow the signs with the gray P. Note: the name of the preferente will on some signs change to “Llegadas”, which means arrival. But simply focus on the gray P then you will be fine.

The parking lot is outside on the ground floor, and has recently undergone renovation to extend it.

The 2022 rates for preferent parking:
First minute: €1.0815-
2 to 30 mins: €0.057265 per minute.
31 to 60: €0.083635 per minute.
From 61 min.: €0.093510 per minute.
Maximum costs per day: €37.50.

P2 Express Parking

Private cars you are no longer allowed to simply stop outside the departure terminal. You need to use the  so called Express Parking option. To get to the Express parking lot, follow the signs with the Green P and the word “Express”.  After you have received a ticket from the machine, you can immediately look for a spot outside or turn right and head to the covered parking garage. You can spend the first 15 minutes in this zone then it is still free.  If you need to spend more time you then need to pay at the machine. It will be approx. 6.68 euros for the first hour and then for each subsequent hour the costs are also 6.38 euros per hour. The total amount can be as much as 58 euros for a whole day of parking. So in case you want to park at the airport for a long period it is adviced to use the express parking.

This place is therefore only recommended for quickly dropping off or picking up people. Note: It can be busy exiting, so if you want to stay within the free 15 minutes, don’t wait until the last minute to drive to the exit!

P1 Auto Park Malaga airport

This covered parking garage is also an option to use as a parking lot for the arrival and departure airport terminals. But P1 is not the cheapest solution for a short stop. You can reach the departure terminals directly via the 2nd floor. The P1 parking can also be used as an option to pick up people. There are 47 disabled places available. Prices are approximately 0.89 euros for the first minute and 0.02 euros per minute for 2 to 30 minutes of parking. After this it will be around 0.05 euro cents per minute. A full day here will only cost you 19 euros, this rate will apply for the first 4 days, after which the daily price drops to 16.50 euros.

To arrive at the P1 parking garage, simply follow the P general signs.

Which option you choose is of course entirely up to you. We just gave you some tips and options to easily pick up or drop off people at Malaga airport.
